Bundestag simplifies the rules for digital general meetings

On February 9, 2023, the German Bundestag decided by a large majority to exempt associations and their general meetings from the legal obligation to usually only be held in person. Members of an association should now also be able to take part in a general meeting digitally. This should give members the opportunity to take part in their own association's general meeting, even if they are unable to attend in person.

The new law has significantly simplified the rules for digital general meetings. This means that associations no longer have to amend their articles of association to make digital or hybrid meetings possible. Instead, members of the association should now be able to participate in their own association's general meeting digitally or hybrid, even if they cannot be present on site.
